Important information
Tickets can be bought online in advance, and also at the ticket desks at all four entrances, where payment is possible in cash or by card. There are no special group rates.
The market is entered only through four controlled entrances with security and admission staff, and the entrance areas are under video surveillance. Person and bag checks take place depending on the situation, so short waits at the entrances are possible. At most 5,000 visitors may be on the site at once, and entry can be slowed or paused when the market is full.
Only small daypacks or bags up to A4 size (about 15 liters) are allowed, and there is no luggage storage or cloakroom. Weapons, pyrotechnics, containers made of glass or other fragile material, food and drinks brought from outside, and extremist propaganda material are not allowed. Dogs are not allowed, except assistance dogs such as guide dogs, whose handlers carry the relevant ID.
Card payment is accepted throughout the food and drink area but is not guaranteed at every craft stall, so some cash is useful. Seats in the restaurant huts are reserved directly with the restaurateurs.
Cancellation policy
The ticket is non-refundable. Once purchased, the date and time cannot be changed.
Location of the Gendarmenmarkt Christmas Market
Address: Gendarmenmarkt, 10117 Berlin.
Closest landmark: the Konzerthaus Berlin, which stands on the square itself, together with the Französischer Dom and the Deutscher Dom.
Gendarmenmarkt is named after the Gens d'armes cuirassier regiment, which kept its stables on the square until 1773, and the name translates as "men-at-arms market". From 1950 to 1991 the square was called Platz der Akademie. It was renovated from October 2022 and reopened on March 13, 2025, fully accessible for the first time. Karl Friedrich Schinkel built the Konzerthaus from 1818 to 1821 as the Schauspielhaus, and Reinhold Begas's Schiller Monument of 1871 stands in front of it. "Dom" here refers to the domed towers of the two churches, the French Church and the German Church: the Französischer Dom houses the Huguenot Museum and a viewing platform, and the Deutscher Dom houses the Bundestag's exhibition on parliamentary history.
